How to Reset Your Keyless Entry System

In recent times, most modern cars and home locks are equipped with keyless entry systems that make for convenience and extra security. Nevertheless, they were not designed to last forever and the codes should be changed intermittently. It is also important to change your keyless entry code to keep your investment safe.
To help you with the process, this blog explains how to reset the code(s) to residential locks and car’s keyless systems. If you tried any of these processes and you’re still unable to reset the code, give us a call at Lock Around The Clock. We’ll be glad to assist you or send you one of our expert locksmiths to get the job done.

Resetting Residential Locks’ Keyless Entry System

While there are many residential locks equipped with keyless technology, we’ll use the Schlage FE595 Keypad Entry Lock as an example.

  • Look for a 6-digit programming code in the operating guide provided with the lock. You can also find the code on the back of your keypad assembly.
  • Punch the programming code on the keypad.
  • When the Schlage button at the middle-top of the keypad turns orange, press it and then immediately press the “6” button.
  • After the backlight flashes 3 times, reenter your 6-digit programming code to confirm the process. With all code(s) on the device erased, you can program new codes of your choice.

How to Reset Your Vehicle Keyless System

Resetting your car’s keyless entry code can help prevent someone who has the code from accessing your vehicle. Depending on the type of vehicle you drive, the steps required to do the job may be different. In this example, however, we’ll see how to change the five-digit security code on Ford vehicles that feature the SecuriCode™ keyless entry system.

  • Check for your factory reset code in the owner’s manual.
  • Enter the code on the keypad.
  • Press the “1-2” button.
  • Quickly enter the new code you intend to use.
  • The doors will lock and then unlock as an indication that the new entry code has been successfully registered.

What to Keep in Mind When Resetting A Keyless Entry System

Whether you are resetting a car or a residential lock keyless system, you need to insert both the programming and entry code quickly. If you don’t press the cold fast, the process will be unsuccessful.  Also, you may be locked out for a lengthy period of time if you punch a wrong code too many times. So, be fast and stay focused while changing your access codes.
